Nepal - Tibet Overland Tour
This
eight-day program takes visitors to the many attractions
of Lhasa and the great monastic cities of Gyantse and
Shigatse. Start in Lhasa for three nights. While here,
tour Sera Monastery: this Gelukpa monastic university,
with rock paintings and carvings, had a historical
rivalry with nearby Drepung. Also visit the Norbulingkha,
which once served as the summer palace of the Dalai
Lamas. Spend a day touring the Potala Palace and Jokhang
Temple, two of Lhasa's most important landmarks. After
exploring Lhasa, drive to Shigatse, the capital of the
Tsang province, and tour Tashilunpo Monastery before
continuing on to Gyantse, where you will see the Pelkor
Chode Monastery and Kumbum. The Kumbum's fabulous
paintings are a highlight of Himalayan art: its 14th
century murals were painted during a key period in
Tibetan art. Return to Lhasa via the magnificent Yamdrok
Lake. Spend a final day touring either Ganden or Tsurphu
monasteries.

Cultural Revolution, the religion, the
culture-traditions & the life, the remaining
monasteries are still well alive and well
preserved, as some explorators described at the
beginning of this century. This is a land of
predilection for photography, wild landscapes, the
life and the Tibetan Buddhist religion.
But we do not go to Tibet for its gastronomy nor
for the quality of its hotels. Both can be
qualified sometime as simple we advise that for

Itinerary:
Day 1
Assistance arrival at Gongar Airport in Lhasa. Transfer to
Tsedang in Yarlung Valley
Day 2
Guided tour of Samye, the oldest monastery belonging to the Red
Hat School and Yumbulakhang, the first castle built for a
Tibetan king
Day 3
Drive via Yamdrok Lake to Gyangtse. Overnight stay at Gyangtse
Hotel. Visit Gyangtse Kubum Stupa and Pelkor Chode Monastery.
Day 4
Drive via Shalu Monastery to Shigatse. Overnight stay at
Shigatse Hotel. Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery & Shigatse
Market
Day 5
Drive from Shigatse to Lhasa. Check into hotel
Day 6
Guided tour of Jokhang Temple, Barkhor and Tibetan Medical
Centre
Day 7
Guided tour of Potala Palace and Drepung Monastery
Day 8
After breakfast transfer to airport to connect with flight to
Kathmandu/Chengdu
